Edwin Jagger De86bl Faux Ebony Double Edge Safety Razor, Black Reviews
13 of 13 people found the following review helpful Exceptional Quality Razor, Great Shave, Good Value, June 28, 2010 By Biotech Consultant (California) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Edwin Jagger De86bl Faux Ebony Double Edge Safety Razor, Black (Health and Beauty) I've only recently started wetshaving with soap in a mug, a bristle brush, and adouble-edgee safety razor. The first razor I got, after my last electric died, was an inexpensive Chinese import. I wanted to find out if wetshaving was for me without investing a lot of money. I was up and running for less that $20. The little Weishi razor was really quite decent. A very gentle shaver, it made it easy for me to learn the art of wetshaving. While it was comfortable to use, it didn't give me very close shaves. My five-o'clock shadow seemed to arrive mid-afternoon.
When I felt comfortable with my technique, I wanted to move up to a better quality razor. I'm totally happy I picked the Edwin Jagger. It is a solidly built, beautifully finished product. I've never seen a razor as well made and elegant as this one. It's definitely a bit more aggressive than my first razor, and that's what I was looking for. It delivers great shaves, and now that I know what I'm doing, with no... Read more
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Fantastic safety razor, September 4, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Edwin Jagger De86bl Faux Ebony Double Edge Safety Razor, Black (Health and Beauty) I have a few safety razors in my shave den, including this one, a Merkur 34C, a Merkur Futur, and two vintage Gilettes, a Slim Adjustable and a Super Speed. This razor sees the most action of any of them. It is a fairly forgiving razor, not too aggressive but it strikes the right balance for me. As most wet shavers will tell you, what performance you get out of razors, creams, soaps, brushes, blades, etc., will greatly vary by user. However, this razor seems to be well received by most. It is an elegantly designed razor and has just the right heft to it. It comes in three pieces, so the head and comb come apart separately for easier cleaning. On first glance the smooth ebony handle might make you think that it could possibly slip easily when wet, however this is not so. I think this is a fine razor for anyone either interested in traditional wet shaving or just looking for something new to add to their arsenal.
8 of 10 people found the following review helpful Best shave I've ever had, October 6, 2010 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Edwin Jagger De86bl Faux Ebony Double Edge Safety Razor, Black (Health and Beauty) Years ago, when I was on active duty in the Marines, I went through a straight razor phase. I loved the shave and the minimal cost after the initial expense, but unfortunately the time and attention required for a quality (and safe) shave with a straight razor does not mesh well with the "****, shower, shave, and hit the road" lifestyle of the Marine Corps. So back to the Mach 3 I went as a matter of convenience and time management. Lately, though, I have been growing increasingly disappointed with the tendency of the Mach 3 to decrease in quality while simultaneously increase in price. I didn't really feel up to the time investment required to get back into straight razor shaving, but it occurred to me that a DE razor might provide a decent wetshave without the hassle of a straight. I shopped around, read some reviews, and settled on this Edwin Jagger. I really wanted a Merkur, but shipping would have been more as I use Amazon Prime. Well, I cannot compare the EJ to the...
